Using footpath as a car park
Reported anonymously at 13:02, Tue 11 July 2017
Sent to East Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1069762.
This is on 10 July 2017 about 6.30 and shows what pedestrians, joggers, and yes, people with mobility issues have to face when walking along parts of Ware Road, Hertford. Worse still, just across the road, developers are applying to build 62 flats & 2 houses with a shortfall in parking. This is addition to the 'already approved' nearby Hertford Gate development with a further 34 flats, again with a shortfall in parking. Disgraceful and extremely dangerous situation which is getting worse! Needs a multi-agency approach - Highways, Planning and Police working together!

All agencies are aware of the problem but unless there are lines on the road the council's enforcement team cannot act. The police can however take action but only when the footpath is obstructed i.e. a wheelchair could not pass safely. Problem is... the police, quite understandably, cannot always respond immediately and by the time they can the vehicle may have gone. As can be seen from images taken 26.07.17 the problem persists!

Unfortunately, the problem still exists. Everyone is aware of the issue and the police recently had a well publicised blitz in Hertford but until all agencies agree on a long-term solution, such as yellow lines etc., the buck will continue to be passed and pedestrians will bear the risk.

There is currently a comprehensive traffic survey of Ware Road and the surrounding area being carried out by Herts County Council Highways. Hopefully, this will highlight the road safety, congestion and parking issues and result in the recommendation of appropriate measures. Watch this space!
